Module Leader: Dr. Donna Woodhouse
The aim of this module is to introduce you to the key principles, theories and philosophies that underpin community development approaches to the provision of sport and to equip you to critically analyse and evaluate these with regard to policy and practice. The module will enable you to develop key insights into the intersection between theory, policy and practice which will in turn help you to be able to identify the issues facing marginalized and deprived communities and formulate strategies for addressing these through sport. This will be achieved by focusing on the practical usefulness of community theories and concepts to both policy makers and practitioners. The module is an important step in developing your ability to make links between critical ideas in social policy and their impact on local communities, enhancing both your knowledge, intellectual and management skills, and hence your future employability.
